Below we have a list of suggested items to bring along with you for your trip with MGFF.

Rods and Reels:  We are all inclusive and provide our clients with all rods, reels, and tackle for all of our trips.  Many people prefer to bring their own equipment, so we recommend a 9 foot 5 or 6 weight rod with a weight forward floating fly line.  This setup seems to be the best all around for the majority of our fishing in SW Montana.  For streamer fishing, 6-8 weight rods with floating lines or sinking tips are ideal.

Waders: Light weight Gore-Tex type waders with a wading belt are recommended.

Boots: Felt soled or rubber soled boots are the best for our waters.  Spikes are okay for wade trips but will put wear on the boat, so we ask you leave them at home for float trips.

Layering: Montana can throw a lot of different weather at you during the day.  We recommend bringing along light weight, breathable clothing for warmer weather, sun hats, long sleeves, quick drying pants. Polypropylene base layers for colder seasons, fleece pants, long johns, knit hats, gloves, balaclavas.  A light weight raincoat is handy for spring/summer showers and a heavy duty Gore-Tex rain coat for the colder rain/snow storms of fall and winter is a good item to have with you.

Polarized Sunglasses: These are a great tool for seeing better while fishing and reading the terrain of the river more effectively.

Digital Camera:  Montana rivers have some of the world’s most spectacular scenery as their backdrop.  Bring along your favorite camera for some great opportunities to see wildlife, mountain peaks, and rolling rivers.
